Flat Earth

Flat Earth is what happens when you combine at least 8 years of religious homeschool indoctrination along with daily doses of Prozac while also including blunt force trauma to the head. It takes a life deprived of experiencing the perspective of 100 ft elevation, deprived of being taught basic geometry, deprived of simple answers to simple questions in order to believe this bucket of lies brought about by scripture and people whom are dumber than a bag of hammers. Dumber than Congress. Dumber than G Man's shit. Even relying on framework as bankrupt as governmental epistemology would not justify one's belief in this concept. Should you encounter Mr. Turtle that hold the purported flat Earth on his shell, please tell him for us that.

The "troof" of the flat Earth is, of course, constantly suppressed by the ever ominous, faceless, and nameless: "they": a group of illuminati, freemason, atheist, zionist, pagan, satanist, vegan, white men who apparently have enough resources to control every government, private agency, YouTube shill, and thinking person on the planet, but are not smart enough to remove obvious and glaring errors from everything they create in their CGI computers and/or soundstages, with the result being that any idiot with an internet connection and a pulse can uncover the whole conspiracy in less than 5 seconds.

The flat Earth is, in reality, a very crappy idea about the shape of the Earth, which can be easily disproved by simple observations that anyone can make who has some spare time and a camera. Also, flat Earth has no cohesive or agreed-upon model, making it nearly impossible to test. This isn't helped by the fact that flat Earthers are the campions of post-hoc explanations, inventing new terms or assigning new meaning and properties to existing terms so that someones test or observation doesn't REALLY disprove a flat Earth (see Betty Van Velsen).

They also typically use certain buzz-words they don't understand to describe terms and effects they don't understand or want to change the meaning of to suit their narrative. These include: perspective, the atmosphere, refraction, lensing, gravity, and many more.

Connections to other Forms of Pseudoscience

Acceptance of the flat Earth generally comes with Biblical literalism, Geocentrism, young-Earth creationism, and an acceptance of many other conspiracy theories such as the faking of the moon landing, 9/11 being an inside job, lizard freemasons controlling all world events (thanks Obama), the complete fabrication of all of scientific understanding in general, and even a belief in ancient aliens seeding advanced knowledge to early humans... for S&Gs, I guess.

Things that Debunk the Flat Earth

The evidence against the flat earth is overwhelming. Here's a bunch of diagrams that prove the earth by definition MUST be a spheroid of some kind, and not a gigantic communion wafer:

The altitude angle of Polaris corresponds to your latitude (within a few degrees of error, since Polaris isn't exactly on the north celestial pole, but close enough to treat it as if it is). This only works on a globe.

This is a "celestial chart" or a map of the night sky, with the celestial poles at the center of each celestial hemisphere. These types of maps have been made since the days of exploration. They were essential for sailors to navigate (especially during the night), because if you know the date and time, you can use the stars not only to calculate your latitude, which is easily done using one star like Polaris (see previous picture), but also your longitude so can determine where you are on earth, even at sea. These maps are only reliable if the earth is a sphere. Using a flat earth model to construct a map of the sky would only get you lost at sea or anywhere else.

During the equinoxes on a flat earth, the sun would have to be in multiple places at the same time to match observations.

The equators circumference would be 1.57x bigger on the flat earth.

The flat earth map cannot get the proper position of the sunset correct in the southern hemisphere. The globe, however, can.
