Basic Description

The Golden Crocoduck award was an annual contest (and series of videos) conducted between 2008 and 2013 by well-known YouTube skeptic Potholer54, for "the biggest breach of the 9th commandment in pursuit of the creationist cause." The 9th command, of course, being "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor." In more detailed terms, the award was to be granted to whichever creationist apologist told the most brazen lie in furtherance or his or her beliefs in a given year, determined by popular vote. Candidates were either selected by Potholer himself or nominated by one of his subscribers. Videos detailing and debunking the relevant claims of each nominee were published in the months leading up to the end of the contest, and winners were voted on by commenting on a voting video. The winner of the "Coveted Golden Crocoduck" was announced each year on October 28th--the day of St. Jude Thaddeus, the Patron Saint of Lost Causes--accompanied by an extensive video on Potholer's channel giving a rundown of the votes for each candidate, and a detailed segment summarizing the (often laughable) claims of the winner. The first Golden Crocoduck contest was announced in this video, which was Potholer's first entry in a long and illustrious (and still in progress) YouTube career of debunking pseudoscience garbage.

Origins

The award was named after "the crocoduck", a half-crokodile, half-duck hybrid dreamed up by Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort in a debate with [insert facts here].
