This website is a repository for archival material I've collected relating to the "Great Debate Community" (also known as the "GDC"), a small group that grew out of what was once known as the YouTube Atheist Community centered around discussion of religion, philosophy, science, and related issues.
Also drama. Lots and lots of drama.
As many of you know, Google+ (the primary social media platform for the GDC) was shut down by Google in April of 2019. Upon Google's announcement the previous October that G+ would be taken down, I set about writing a scraper which could save entire profiles to a database, a project that would take several months to complete. Once it was worked, I used it to scrape 598 community-participant and community-adjacent Google+ profiles (including all profile data, threads, and associated comments) for about a month before Google took down the G+ APIs in March 2019, effectively breaking my program. The final dataset contains 463,482 threads and 1,101,232 comments, weighing in at around 3.9 GB.
At this time, I have chosen not to release the entire archive database to the public, but I am continuing to analyze and mine it for interesting data. Analysis of the resulting dataset stagnated after the community fractured in late 2019, however I've recently resumed work on the project, and will be posting updates and analysis data to the blog linked below.
The GDC Wiki was a humorous attempt at creating an encyclopedia of community lore and characters. It was originally created in May 2017 by Callzter on the site Fandom (formerly known as Wikia), and was taken down (allegedly due to violations of Fandom's TOS) as of March 2019. It was originally located at the following URL:
I am maintaining a read-only mirror of the GDC Wiki on this site, with minimal edits to fix broken links and other technical issues. All textual content has been preserved, but some of it (such as the infoboxes found on most of the articles about community members) doesn't display correctly under MediaWiki and still needs to be fixed. Unfortunately, all images and other media hosted on the original wiki site were not included in the archival dump, and have been lost.
I have a second YouTube channel called MirrorBox, which contains re-uploads of old and/or lost GDC content from days gone by. In addition to adding videos from my personal collection, I'm also interested in videos from other people! If you have downloads of any relevant or interesting videos from GDC history, please do get in contact with me! My contact info can be found in the page footer below.
I also maintain a channel called AndromedasArchivist, a repository of videos from the YouTuber formerly known as AndromedasWake. He was a fairly well-known content creator back in the ancient "proto-GDC" days of 2008-2012 YouTube, and made numerous videos debunking Young Earth Creationist claims regard astronomy and cosmology. All of his most popular content is now on the channel, however if you have any minor videos of his that I'm still missing, please do send them my way.
I'm the creator of the infamous G Man Soundboard, which I originally developed in March of 2018 and have since released occasional updates to. Not exactly an archive-related project, but it's what I'm most well known for, so I thought I should link to it here.
While I am no longer actively collecting content for it (I've already watched more than enough G Man to build this thing!), if you heard something you think would be well-suited for the soundboard, feel free to send me an audio clip or timestamped link.
